We know it's a good bike when the employees are the ones salivating over it, and the Pivot Mach 4 SL Race XT Bike is at the top of our lists when we're looking into the pain cave spectrum. The Mach 4 SL is built to get us up the mountain and back down, thrashing around on flowy trail and rocketing up is built into its very DNA. The lightweight frame shows Pivot's dedication to speed, with the new XC layup shedding 300g off of the Mach 429 SL. Equipped with Fox suspension and a durable Shimano drivetrain, we're riding an incredibly capable machine that'll be sure to bring us to trailheads around the world. The Mach 4 SL comes with aggressive geometry to match up with its cross-country racing design and inspiration. With the installed 120mm fork, we're getting a slacked-out 67. 5 degree head-tube angle and a 73. 5 seat-tube angle. Both numbers inspire us to get out of the saddle and power through the climbs, as well as give us proper trail-shredding agility and confidence. The modern 616mm top tube length creates a stable platform for the chunder seen in today's premier cross-country events. The rear on the bike uses ever-popular 4-bar link suspension, essentially eliminating pedal bob and creating a super-efficient pedaling platform. Specced with components that are ready to take a beating, the Mach 4 SL receives a full slew of trail and race-ready parts. Shimano takes care of the drivetrain with a mix of lightweight XT and SLX components that help us get moving and stopping. Wheels are supplied by DT Swiss, with the smash-ready M1900's being laced to equally reliable DT Swiss 370 hubs we're confident while going hard off the deep end. Fox suspension gets us up and out of the rough stuff, with a Performance 34 upfront in a 120mm step-cast version taking anything that modern cross-country racing can throw at it.
