Enduro racing is in our blood here, so we rally on the all-new Pivot Firebird X2 XT/XTR X2 Mountain Bike on race and training days. Slacked out, longer, lighter, and more aggressive all describe really well what the new Firebird does but until we hopped on one we couldn't feel how well it did it. The bike comes equipped with carbon bits where prudent and top-shelf suspension components where needed to help us go faster for longer. Whether we're sprinting through the last corner on an enduro stage or taking hit after hit at the bike park the new Pivot Firebird does it better. Pivot completely redesigned the Firebird into a fire breathing machine that gets all the modern amenities and pushes the envelope of enduro racing even further. Though the newly redesigned frame drops significant grams, it still gets adorned with a slacker headtube and longer wheelbase. The headtube comes in at 64-degrees in the low setting and can be pushed up . 6-degrees with a flip-chip for more undulating terrain. The wheelbase comes in at half an inch longer than the previous design, meaning this new Firebird is designed to go fast and carry speed as well as any downhill bike. Spec on the bike helps us know that the folks over at Pivot know more about what they're doing than we do. The XT/XTR version put quality at the forefront with a smooth-shifting XT/XTR drivetrain going to work getting us up the hill while the full Fox Factory treatment gets us down. A huge Fox 38 with the highly tunable GRIP2 damper eats any kind of terrain thrown its way and the Fox X2 keeps things supple yet springy in the rear. A Fox Factory dropper post finishes off the Kashima-coated parts and promises better ride quality for longer service intervals.
