Seymour QP Session

It was just another day in the Seymour backcountry for four North Van locals who have spent there fair share of days up here. The sun was out in Vancouver, but unfortunately it had been a while since Seymour had gotten any new snow. Pow day after pow day we had been tearing Seymour apart this season so far, but now deep in the middle of a serious snowless spell we were forced to build a quarter pipe and step away from the powder.

We take the chairs up Mystery and Brockton, and then hike up the face of Seymour's first peak hoping to find the area that we had been thinking about in good condition to build a QP. We make it to the top of the face and have a look at this weird wind lip/cornice type formation that always forms up here. This snow formation is here every season and every season it slowly builds up in to an almost perfect natural QP.

There are quite a few variables that cause this formation to take on various shapes though, so sometimes you can get away with little to no building while other times it is not even worth trying to build a QP here. Today it looks pretty good, so we decide to carve it out on the far end to do some handplants as building this thing to actually air out of takes a long time due to the need to make a huge run in to get enough speed. We carve out the QP and let it sit to firm up while we hit the far side of the formation natural.

The sun was shining, we had a case of bro sodas on the go and we managed to get a few pics to tell the story of the day.
