Volcom Peanut Butter & Rail Jam at Mount Seymour Results
The 15th stop on the 2007/08 North American Peanut Butter & Rail Jam tour went down at Vancouver’s Mount Seymour Sun March 30, 2008!

Before I get to the riding portion of this article, I’ve got to first note the insane amount of hard work and creativity that went into the custom PBRJ setup. Among other upstanding chaps, Mark Williams, Sean Keating, Matt Heneghan, Danny Koriath and Leroy Seymour had a vision and rallied a huge crew to help see it through to fruition! From the feature dubbed “The Brown Monster” to the down-flat butter-pads, this was a top-notch contest site that was born of sweat, beer and European cigarettes. Check the photos and video to see what I’m talking about.

The contest got off to an impressive start courtesy of the 15 & Under Division! The tricks came fast and furious and it didn’t take long until riders started their systematic destruction of the Brown Monster! Best described as a monstrous toe jamming down-flat-down wall-ride, this thing was the most imposing PBRJ feature we’ve seen in awhile! Apparently the kids weren’t deterred because they were all up on it lickity split! Needless to say, the 15 & Under riders ripped and put on a heck of a show! Despite nearly all the scores being tight, Jamie Blain claimed 1st, Geoff Stinson 2nd and Tyler MaCrae came in 3rd!

The clouds parted and the sun jumped out to keep those of us not lucky enough to be riding, warm. With invites going to the top 5 riders, there was Peanut Butter & Rail Jam glory in their eyes as hammers were thrown down on all three features! If I hard to name names, I’d start with nollie back lips, b/s 180 to wallride b/s 360 out and more then a few switch back tails. After many numbers were painstakingly counted, Spencer Lundin took 1st, Dave Hull 2nd and Tyy Clark slid into 3rd!

The ladies division was up next and it was clear from the start that they were in it to win it! We’ve seen some insane talent in the Girl’s Division so far on the 2007/08 North American PBRJ tour but I must admit these girls are right at the top! Things got real in a hurry as the girls pushed each other to take things to the next level! It was tough to narrow it down, but after all was said and done, Breanna Stangeland placed 1st, Lisa Watson 2nd and Chelsey Armstrong was a close 3rd!

The Open Division rounded out the day’s anarchy with a helluva session! It didn’t take long for these guys to get right to it. With plenty of cash, prizes, but only a few invites up for grabs, there was more then enough incentive in the air. The Brown Monster in zone 1 was looking smaller and smaller as the Open group pushed the limits of what we thought was possible on that thing! You name it and it was thrown down and these guys made it look good! Shortly afterwards at the awards “ceremony”, it was Jake Kuzyk locking down 1st, Jordan Gibson in 2nd and Nic Heringa making his presence felt in 3rd!

A huge thanks goes to Mark Bernardo, Mark Williams and the rest of the crew at Mount Seymour for all their hard work and stone support! Thanks also to Matt “the heed” Jenkins, Liam Ellicott and Brandon Janssen for judging, Persia Steven’s for tabulating, Dirk Yarmush for helping with registration and Danny Koriath and Leroy Seymour for all their hard work on the setup. Also, thanks again to everyone else that spent countless hours in the park making the event a memorable one! Last but not least, thanks to Electric and Celtek for supporting the PBRJ with prizes.
