The Scarpa Alien 1. 0 Alpine Touring Boot boasts out-of-this-world lightness for competitive ski racers. Its cuff is completely carbon to keep the boot's weight under two pounds and still retain a forgiving 100 flex, and the shell is a carbon, Grilamid blend for durability and torsional strength. Scarpa also reduced weight by switching out standard metal buckles with a Boa dial that quickly fastens the boot with Dyneema cord. The only metals on this boot are TLT tech inserts for a secure connection between boot and binding, as well as the slimmer Speed Lock Lite walk mode that locks into place so the flex doesn't deteriorate overtime. The Alien 1. 0 isn't just ridiculously light, it's also surprisingly comfortable since Scarpa knows you don't want to be racing with foot pains. The 99mm last fits the average foot comfortably, and it balances between a precise performance and enough room to splay your toes. Since there really isn't a tongue, the Alien has a waterproofed gaiter 1. 0 for snow protection and to provide insulation. The Intuition Crossfit BT liner includes foam from the boot's cuff down to the sole for cushy comfort. Speaking of the sole, Vibram's UFO sole includes includes dual-density rubber with special lugs optimized for 360 traction to give a good grip on the uphill and the down.
