In designing this jacket, Salomon thought of almost everything you could need when you're hoofing it for 30+ miles in some of the world's most unforgiving terrain, starting with durable waterproofing and high breathability that meets the waterproofing requirements for even the most stringent races. The Pertex Shield membrane completely shuts out water from sudden summit downpours, and offers enough breathability to ensure that you won't be soaked with sweat instead. Plus, if it's particularly warm or you're really building heat, you can easily ventilate using the jacket's Smart Vent feature. Smart Vent works intuitively with the jacket, allowing you to fully unzip the front zipper while special tabs keep the sides of the jacket connected so they won't go flailing in the wind now that your jacket's unzipped. In addition to easy venting, Salomon's also thought of a way to let you shed your jacket in a flash while keeping it close by. The bottom elastic waistband, which works to keep the jacket in place as you run, also functions as a sort of waist storage system when the rain dies down but you can't slow down for a second. The jacket rolls easily into the waistband and stays there until rainy skies or biting winds return, ensuring that you won't need to fumble with your pack just to stash your jacket.
